  EPILOGUE

  FOREWORD

My name is Allie Mastluehr, and in the spring of 1913, I stumbled upon some of the most remarkable but forgotten tales of the American Old West. These accounts were narrated to me in the desolate ruins of Cedar Ledge—a once mighty Arizona ranch—and I promise that everything I was told was not the stuff of legend; it was one remarkable family’s true history almost lost to the unforgiving winds of time.

I experienced an infinite series of shocks as the ranch's last inhabitant, aging Cattie Wilde, relayed to me the story of the heroics of the most improbable of mixed-race families, of which she had been a member. She quickly immersed me in all the action, adventure, romance, and family drama that came with being one-quarter of the formidable foursome known to friends and foes alike as THE DAUGHTERS OF HALF BREED HAVEN. In short, I learned of this stunning multiracial quartet whose bravery, thirst for justice and love for each other was matched only by their unbridled appetite for the most casual and sizzling encounters with the opposite (or in Catalina's case, the same) sex.

The Mexican Catalina along with the fair-skinned, blonde Cassandra, mulatto Honor Elizabeth, and Asian Lijuan, all half-sisters, were the proud daughters of Judge William Henry “Whip” Wilde. The interracial sisters along with their siblings—cavalry officer Dutch and his Indian love Bright Feather, and their youngest brother, the Yavapai brave Blue River, the WILDES OF THE WEST upheld the law and aided those in need amidst the pristine beauty and natural wonders that was their corner of 1870s Arizona.

About Catalina Wilde—my courteous host and now, for all practical purposes, becoming the mother I never had. From what I can tell, she has not changed one bit from her youth. An impetuous, fun-loving woman who enthusiastically engaged in her romances that flew in the face of what society deems acceptable. Come what may, little ever stifled her good cheer, not even the dangers she faced against the countless robbers, rustlers, polecats, and jaspers the West kept throwing at them. Woe to anyone that stood in the way of Catalina and her sisters.

As for her siblings, though I have only had the privilege of knowing Catalina, through her stories and the significant volume of diaries and journals mercifully saved by Cattie, the rest of the Wildes have become as alive to me as if they were standing before me as I write this.

Catalina has graciously made available to me all her family’s writings so that I may pen the definitive tale of this unique and exceptional family and the adversity they faced. The more I read of them, the greater my amazement and respect for them grows as I follow their adventures in vanquishing villains and bedding whatever conquest happen to come their way.

This is one such tale as Cassandra Wilde finds herself trapped in a life and death snare. The only hope for her life and that of those around her rests in surviving the RIVER OF DEATH.

  TELEGRAPH HILL

  San Francisco, California

  1873

Standing on her hotel’s verandah, Cassandra Wilde watched the glow of the setting sun reflected off the beautiful and shimmering San Francisco Bay. There was only a moment left before the orb would dip below the horizon featuring the two peninsulas of land jutting out into the open ocean beyond. Her mind struggled for a minute to recall what those two points were, and then she remembered … the Golden Gate.

The final rays of sunlight reflected in her eyes that were the deepest shade of emerald green imaginable. So remarkable were they that her father often told her what he remembered most about her birth was the moment her eyes fluttered open after taking her first breath and seeing them. In those irises now thirty-two years older, the light faded as the sun checked out for another day.

For a brief moment, her attention turned to the large, flat island a little over a mile offshore. From what she recalled it was a military prison that had held among others, Confederates caught on the Union’s West Coast during the war. She quickly brushed that out of her mind because thinking about that would remind her that on the other side of the country, her brother, Dutch, had finished out the war in the abominable conditions of a rebel POW camp.

Cassandra readied herself to return to her room leaving the two French doors wide open, an action which
had drawn her to the verandah in the first place, to allow cool air into the room because she knew it was about to get very, very hot in the room. She needed no confirmation of this as she stepped backward into her hotel suite and into the grasp of a pair of hands. Cassandra smiled as she felt the first pair plant themselves on her hips as the man spun her around and then the second pair slid their way up to her voluminous breasts, each hand cupping a tit in a welcoming clench. The lady lawman from Arizona now found herself sandwiched between two very handsome men.

Cassandra had always considered herself tall, but even she had to look up to the man directly in front of her. Seth Christian gazed down at her through crystalline blue eyes. Damn, he was a handsome man with his lantern jaw and closely cropped blonde hair she thought admiringly as she raised her hands and laid them on his shoulders. The gentle squeezing of her breasts made her momentarily shift her attention away from the lover before her, to the one behind her. Jefferson Blake was a much shorter of a figure than she or Seth, but he like the other man had attractiveness in spades. Blake sported a neatly trimmed beard and mustache a deep shade of ebony and his brown eyes seemed to sparkle as they sat over his squat nose. The defense lawyer was a compact, well put together man that she suspected bulged with muscles under his clothing and she for one, couldn't wait to confirm that. She turned her attention back to the prosecutor Christian in front of her and breathed in anticipation, "Undress me." Calling back over her shoulder to Blake, she finished, "both of you."

A tingle rippled through her as the pair of men went to work stripping her nude. Blake, who already had his hands on her breasts, withdrew them and began to work on unbuttoning the back of her dress she’d worn to court that day before turning his attention to her corset, getting the ties out of the way. Christian stood ready gripping the shoulders of her dress as he waited for Blake to finish his work his blue eyes wouldn’t leave hers and he moved in slipping his tongue into her mouth to Cassandra’s delight. When he lowered his fingers to give a gentle squeeze to her boobs, Cassandra closed her eyes with ecstasy, on pins and needles to see what came next.

Christian slowly knelt in front of her, pulling her dress and the freed corset down with him. He swept the frilly Parisian underwear Honor Elizabeth had given her for Christmas, down her legs and began to trace kisses all over her knees, thighs and the inviting folds of her pleasure hole. She held his head and pulled him near, smearing his face with her dripping juice from below her nest of similarly goldenrod hair. She couldn't believe she had gotten so wet within a matter of seconds with the way Christian was passionately flicking his tongue between her lips making them burst with rippling pleasure signaling what was to come. Her sensations were augmented even more by the return of Blake's hands to her breasts, toying with her hardened nipples that left her squirming. She couldn't wait to get into the nearby bed.

“Okay.” Cassandra breathed. “Let me return the honors…to both of you.” She deliberately repeated both of you as she had before, though neither the defense lawyer or the prosecutor needed much prodding.

Christian nodded and stood to his feet, standing tall in front of her. She reached out to graze the length of the swell that was his hardening cock with her fingers before she began to unbutton his shirt. She had an instant effect on him; Cassandra could see. First, he held his breath while his cock began to jerk uncontrollably between his legs, making the materials of his expensive suit pulsate. When the last button was undone, Cassandra found that she had to hold her breath too. He was alluring and attractive, and she easily noted his entire upper body was in fine shape. The fact that he was taller, making him seem like a mountain in the room, gave her thighs a jolt. She cleared her throat and yanked at his belt getting it loose in second before making quick work of his fly. One glance down there, as soon as his trousers and underwear hit to the floor as she tugged them downward, left her barely able to stifle a gasp of excitement. The prosecutor had a long and uncut dick…the kind she hasn’t seen in a while.

You next, Cassandra thought, turning to Blake. He had been waiting for her. As soon as she stepped towards him, he held her wrists guiding her hands, placing them on the lump in his crotch and slowly dragged them upward until they were on his chest. She was right; the defense lawyer truly bulged with muscles beneath his clothing. She confirmed this as soon she pulled his shirt down, revealing his wide shoulders and large arms. If Christian was alluring, Blake was downright irresistible. The man had a body of a god; every inch of his upper torso was well shaped and powerfully built. Lijuan had always said everything was always better in Arizona, including the men, but Cassandra would be damned if these San Franciscans weren't just as good! Anxious, Cassandra didn't bother to unbuckle his belt or even pull his trousers down first; she reached through his fly and yanked out his hardening cock.

“Hell’s Bells.” She whistled in admiration

His cock wasn’t as long as Christian’s, but it was definitely thicker and dotted with thick veins. It jerked in her hand, exciting her. Without thinking twice, she bent her head, worked her tongue to glide around the contours of his cock and then stood to smile at both fully-aroused counselors.

Borrowing one of her favorite sayings she usually used when she launched herself into a pursuit of a yet another outlaw that the west seemed to have an endless supply of she said, "It's time to open this ball." Clasping each one of the man's hands in hers, she led them towards the plush bed in the suite. Every now and then she liked to put the money the hugely successful Cedar Ledge Ranch earned the family to good use and treat herself.

To that end, she had checked into a very well to do hotel gracing the westward slope of the city's Telegraph hill and asked for the best room in the house. The room featured a soft bed, and it was large, and that was about to come in handy. As they neared it, she shook her head with a smile and thought how a chance encounter on a sunbaked Arizona street had ultimately led to this moment when she was about to make love to not one man but two men at the same time.

  CHAPTER 1

  PARISH, ARIZONA TERRITORY

  ONE MONTH AGO

Two pairs of cowboy boots stepped out onto the creaking, dusty clapboard sidewalk that ran up and down both sides of the town of Parish. One set belonged to the tall woman with the bountiful mane of goldenrod hair and the other to the petite Asian woman at her side. As the batwing doors swung closed behind them, the sound of a man’s whistle carried along with them to the outside of the saloon.

Cassandra and Lijuan Wilde were very used to such attention, welcome or unwelcome. They, like their other two sisters, had been born with hourglass figures, inherited from a paternal grandmother they had never met, her portrait as a young woman however all but confirmed they had been blessed with their shapes from her. The pair turned left and began to walk down past the various storefronts.

As usual, they were drawing attention from men and women alike but not as many stares as they would have gotten had their sisters Honor Elizabeth and Catalina been with them. Without fail the sight of a white woman enjoying the company of an Asian, mulatto, and Mexican woman always drew eyeballs upon them. To the people of this town, Cassandra could tell, the sight of a Chinese woman not in the company of her own kind struck them as out of the ordinary. She sighed, knowing the world had a long way to come before folks understood what the Wilde family already knew, people were just people, and it didn’t matter what shade they came in.

“That was one damn fine cold mug of beer if I do say so myself! Sorry you didn’t drink yours all the way to the bottom?” Cassandra remarked, reflecting on the beverages they had been served following their long ride from Alamieda to Parish.

"Not at all!" Lijuan replied, crossing her arms as she drew one side of her mouth back in a lopsided grin. "You know full well alcohol hits me like my own hammer. Half a mug was all this girl was going to drink. I want my wits about me when I meet with this Mister Phillipe at the fencing company! People who don't know me and do business with me for the first time thin
k oh, a woman and Oriental at that. Those folks are under the impression that I can be snookered and pay through the nose. Well, Lijuan Wilde is here to dicker and get the best price!"

Cassandra laughed and didn’t doubt for a minute that her sister would. Her father had handed over the running of the Cedar Ledge Ranch to Lijuan years ago, and while it had always turned a healthy profit, under Lijuan’s reign, the proceeds of the five-hundred-square-mile spread were beyond robust. There was little uncertainty in her mind that her sister’s business acumen would get the ranch the best deal possible.

At the end of the street, lay the Cattleman’s Post and Fence Co. and their reason for a long, dusty ride from Cedar Ledge, or as some referred to it—Half Breed Haven. That had been a name first coined to hurt the audaciously mixed family, but the girls had long ago embraced it. In a show of defiance, to this day in large metallic letters, HBH sat snuggly inside a circle rose atop the entrance to Cedar Ledge. They were the Daughters of Half Breed Haven and damn proud of it. They were now away from the ranch because recently Lijuan had decided they needed a fence between the Haven and the ranch of Lijuan’s old nemesis Rooster McCarthy. The man had recently bought the ranch that separated his Calico ranch property from one of the edges of the Wilde family cattle empire and she was certain encroachment was on Rooster’s mind.

Currently, Cassandra was between assignments from their uncle, the territorial governor, and she had jumped at the chance to accompany Lijuan. It wasn’t so much that she was bored when she wasn’t out upholding the law. She simply wished to spend more time with Lijuan. Her sister had recently recovered from a gunshot wound she’d taken in a desperate flight for her life in a Mexican canyon, and physically she was doing fine.
